Bookmobile Audiobook Player App Reviews

157 add

I just updated my review after updating this application. Ive been using this app for over a year and the functionality alone is worth the price of admission. Being able to add bookmarks, etc is great. I have been looking for a good audiobook player for a long time and this is the best one that I found. This is called the freemium model of business where the app developer gives you a taste by allowing you to add three books and then if you want to continue you pay to upgrade to add more books. From what I understand the app store doesnt have free trials although they could do a light version of the app. Perhaps there should be a way to back up bookmarks and be able to restore them if that is an issue. I didnt see any backup options within this application so.... This app works on both my iPhone and iPad. It keeps your place which is great and you can even add bookmarks. I emailed for help and they got back to me super fast to help answer a few questions. This app developer updates this app often which means they work hard on making this a better and better. I have been using it for a long time. I did find they have a website that teaches you how to use this app. Just tap on the star button within the app on the bottom and tap help/FAQ. It is working great I found I can add my own artwork to my personal audiobooks which is cool. I found swipe gestures to skip ahead back and forward etc. I suggest to read their online manual as some of the things are hidden like the swipe up for the left side I had to read to figure that one out. I purchased the in app purchase so I can add more than 3 audiobooks. I used to use an app called bookmark which was awesome but they stopped making that app so I have been looking for a while to find one I really like. This is it. Just take the time to read the help/FAQ as it has a lot of great features that may not be obvious. By the way if you have a lot of CDs that are audiobooks, there is an app on the mac called audiobook builder which is a great way to rip the disks, and make an audiobook. It will even import to iTunes and it will show up as an audiobook and not music. You also can make audiobooks out of files too. I think it may be in the Mac App Store and also on the splasm website.

Good Player but Booksmarks Functionality Is Flawed

I like the overall functionality of the player but I downloaded this simply because it has bookmarks. Having the app create a bookmark every time I hit the play/pause button is dysfunctional and very poor UI design. The reason I want to create bookmarks is so I can go back and find selected sections. With this app you now have the extra work of having to sort through all of the bookmarks created along the way.

"Known Problem" is a dealbreaker

Known Problems: "Sometimes the app starts back x minutes." This app is almost everything an audiobook fan could ever want. But the "known problem" mentioned at the top of the developers Help/FAQ page is truly a dealbreaker. This is not a "sometimes" issue, it is a constant hassle and the suggested solution to keep the app always in the foreground is simply not feasible or realistic. When I use the pause button on my headphones or my iphone swipe-up tray, it loses my current position and goes back to some previous position. I have to go digging for my actual position and that gets very old. Im sorry, Freshmowed, but why make such a beautiful app if you cant solve such a glaring usability issue?

Happy With Purchase

I like this app better than other audiobook players that I have tried. It is simple, reliable, and has better playback speed options than the native audiobook player. Also, it is very simple adding books to the library. Would recommend.

Needs better share sheet / document picker integration

Its good for playing audiobooks, but the importing could be a lot smoother. Developer should check audioshare as an example of smooth audio import/export.

I like it more the more I use it

Update is working well now. Does a nice job keeping track of location. Much better than trying to use default iPod app. I do have a problem when starting a car in that the iPod start up by default.

Perfect player

This has all the features with this new release. Worth the price. Im glad I found it.

Really good at what it does

Transferring audiobooks to the app is smart and easy. Need to test the podcast portion of the app. Good job implementing audiobook browsing capability via other sources.

Best Audiobook Player to me!

Best Audiobook Player to me!

NICE!

Throughly enjoyed the app! Would recommend to friends! Improvements: option to speed up audio

Good app

Looks like the developer is actively improving it. That is good to see. UI takes some getting used to. Would be nice if it had more than 2x speed. Likely going to buy this after the trial.

Nails In The Coffin

I wrote a lengthy review some time ago to warn potential victims about this app and its very part-time developer. A little over a year ago, this developer took a job and told me he wouldnt have the time to fix the problem one of his updates caused--trashed my extremely long bookmark lists in several long audiobooks (20, 22, & 24 hours of listening). Now, because he cant make any money because of so many prior victims being disenchanted with the app, hes decided to make would-be victims shell out $3.99 to be able to add more than 5 audiobooks--are you kidding me? Trust me everyone, the extra in-app purchase wont garner any more attention to the app by this developer. Save your money and keep looking.

I like it

App really makes my roads pleasant.

Way Better than the Audible App

I listened to over 150 audiobooks last year...all on this app. Im disabled and cant live without it. Its super easy to transfer books, I use the go back 30 minutes when I fall asleep listening and the 5 sec or 5 min. back if I miss something or just want to listen to a portion again. I can set the sleep timer to anytime I want and I love the colors that match the cover. The developer has made several really good updates since I started using the app a year ago. It also allows me to listen to books and still use my iPad for other things. I cant say enough good things about this app. Thank you!

Love it. Thoghtful design

Like the buttons Also many ways to add audio. All in there. I suppose itunes u coulnt be an option.

Does not work

Needed this app to bookmark podcasts. First, after a lot of time investigating the app, I discovered the only way to bookmark is to pause podcast. Pauses and restarts appear in bookmarks, unfortunately, creates bookmarks where none were intended. This does not work and seems to want to discourage you from trying. Delete

Excellent Audiobook Player

Best audiobook/podcast player Ive found. Lots of functionality. Its loaded with features, one of which I find particularly useful: the ability to load and play multi-file audiobooks as a single ZIP file. (Tip: make sure in your archive app, you specifically select ZIP compression to take advantage of this). I first tried the demo of Bookmobile, and once I realized the power of this app, I immediately upgraded to the full version. Definitely recommended.

Bookmobile

I have tried them all. This is by far the best if not not the only one that really works w the best bookmarking, importing, playback options including speed etc. that I have found. I deleted all of the others from my phone. Have not tried the podcast feature yet

Best option!

Every audiobook junkie can agree that the most annoying part of listing to books is picking up right where you left off. This app has been a fantastic at keeping my ADD brain on the right page...you can mark a specific spot in book and it will also mark where you paused. Couldnt ask for more.

Great Audiobook App

Really excellent audiobook app. I am so impressed. Ive had it for a while and continue to find great new potential in it. Last week I discovered that I could upload audiobooks to OneDrive and then through the OneDrive app I had the option to open audiobooks in Bookmobile.
